ECBAT prepare for New Garden Development – Office of Regional Development Photo on 28th June 2002

Well here is a blast from the past. The things you find when looking for something else. Just found a photo (a printout) from the Office of Regional Development who had done a promo photo shoot at Eudunda to promote their involvement in the development of the Eudunda Gardens. The photo was taken a bit earlier and sent to ECBAT on the 28th June 2002.
The photos shows ECBAT Committee Members Greg Post and Barry Mansell (RIP) viewing a draft plan of the Eudunda Gardens.
Of note is the area of the Eudunda Gardens to be developed in the background of the photo. The area was once all railway lines, so they are already cleared and the land levelled and also of note is that the new ‘Gunn Street Extension’ (road) is not there yet or even started. You might notice the tree and fence post on the left hand of the photo which was the South West corner of the existing garden (which was roughly square in area).
To compare we present a photo from about the same spot – taken in 2017. On the left of this photo you can see the dark tree trunk of one of the trees bordering the original gardens on the West side (not likely the same tree as in the above photo because from memory the Southern border – outside the fence was all tamerisk trees).

Since the first photo many thousands of volunteer hours have been spent developing and looking after the gardens, and ECBAT and the community wish to recognise and thank those who spent time working in the gardens. Your efforts have been rewarded mulitple times with awards.
Since then the pathway has been named ‘Appelt Lane‘ as part of Eudunda’s 150th Celebrations.
